Dr. Stephen I. Esses is a renowned orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spinal disorders. Dr. Esses sees patients in Houston, Baytown, Pearland, Katy, and Humble, Texas, offices.
Dr. Esses attended university and medical school and did his orthopedic residency at the University of Toronto. He then completed two years of fellowship training in spinal surgery, with a year at Harvard University and six months each at Chiba University in Japan and as a McLaughlin fellow in Europe. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Board of Spine Surgery, and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians.
Dr. Esses has worked tirelessly to develop new, innovative surgical techniques and implants for the treatment of spinal problems. His clinical interests include spinal surgery, biomechanics of the spine, minimally invasive surgery, and coccygeal pain.
Dr. Esses also is active in the academic field of orthopedic surgery. He sits on the associate editorial boards of Spine, The Spine Journal, and Advances in Orthopedics. He lectures internationally and has published articles and book chapters on spine-related problems. He was a professor of orthopedics for over 15 years and authored the Textbook of Spinal Disorders, a standard reference for spinal medical personnel.
